The end of March is rapidly approaching, which means the end of Forums Month here at OurChurch.Com and the end of our blog series on online forums.  It’s been fun seeing new people get involved on OCC’s Christian forums, meeting new people, discussing issues, and playing around with some of the new features we added.  As I look back on the month, there are a number of things I learned about forums.

Last week we talked about 5 things all successful forums have.  The fact is that the vast majority of websites, especially those operated by a single individual, simply cannot achieve all 5 things necessary to make their forums successful.  Most web administrators either lack the time to moderate forums several times a day, lack the technical ability to keep forums secure, or (most commonly) just don’t have enough regular visitors to their website to get that critical mass for good conversation.

That’s OK.  You can gain many of the benefits of forums through other sites’ forums.  Here are 10 tips for attracting visitors to your website through other sites’ forums.

Last week we kicked off our series about discussion forums with 7 benefits of adding a forum to your website.  I hope that for some of you it piqued your interested and got you thinking about the possibility of adding forums to your site.  This week we’re going to look at 5 things all successful forums have.  If you’re considering adding forums to your website, it’s vital that you ask yourself whether you can bring all 5 of these elements to your forums, because if you can’t, they are probably doomed to fail.

March is Forums Month at OurChurch.Com, and so this is the first in a series of blog articles about discussion forums or message boards.  Forums provide a lot of benefits for the website that manages them.  If you don’t have forums on your site yet, we’ll talk about why you might consider adding them.  If you already have forums on your website, we’ll talk about how to make the most of them.  Even if you don’t have forums on your site and have no desire to add them, participating in other site’s forums can be a great way to build your reputation, links to your site, and new visitors.
