If you are considering building a new church website, you will have to answer a variety of questions. One of the questions that will need to be addressed is if you will use a custom design or pre-made design. A custom design is a design that is created per your specifications, then coded by a developer into a working theme or template. A pre-made design is a theme or template that you can purchase and install into your new website.
The best way to determine which church website design option is better for your church is to list the pros and cons for each.
Custom Church Website Design
- Pros
- Full control over the design and layout
- The design will be completely unique
- No compromise in how your website looks
- Cons
- Creating a custom design takes much longer than using a pre-made design.
- It is more expensive to create a custom design than to purchase a pre-made design
Pre-made Church Website Theme
- Pros
- There are many design options available to meet the need of most churches
- The cost of a pre-made design is much less than creating a custom design
- There is a considerable time savings in purchasing a pre-made design vs. a custom design.
- Cons
- You don’t have complete control over every aspect of the look/layout of your website.
- There are so many options available, it can take a considerable amount of time to find what will be best.
- There will be other websites using the same design.
So after reviewing the pros and cons of each, which option is better? That decision you will have to make for yourself. However, because most churches are trying to keep costs down, many use a pre-made design. Though there are some churches that have very specific ideas of how they want their website to look, and for those churches, going with a custom design is often the better choice.
Because there are so many good options available…
Whether your church chooses a custom website design or a pre-made design, there is no reason to settle for mediocre.
