When it comes to our house, I can’t say I am a master decorator or designer. I know some basics but you’ll never see my house on the cover Better Homes and Gardens or Southern Living magazines. The good thing is, because our home is not a place where we are trying to sell something or get people to become part of an organization, I don’t need to be concerned with what other people think.
However, that is not the case for a website!
The purpose of a website is to invite your target audience to come inside, look around, and see what you’ve done to the place.
In fact…
Your website is a primary marketing tool to convey what your organization is all about and draw others to connect with why you exist, what you do, and how you accomplish your goals. If it doesn’t look good or is difficult to navigate, no matter how good your organization is and no matter how well you can accomplish your mission offline, you will struggle to attract new people through your website.
Often, people will tell me, ‘I’m not a web person, which is why I am calling you. I need you to tell me what to do and how to best accomplish what we want to be on our website.’ They want to give us the basic content and have us organize it in a way that looks appealing to others.
So what is the situation with your website? Are you embarrassed about your website? Do you feel your website doesn’t look good but you can’t quite put your finger on what it is about your site that causes you to feel that way? Or do you know what you don’t like about your site but are not sure what to do to make it better?
If you answered “Yes” to any of these questions, you and your website could benefit from professional help:) Just like I haven’t been given the gift of interior design, you may not have the gift of website design or know what works best for the content on your site.
