In today’s age of development and technology, the saying “The sky’s the limit” is virtually true when it comes to functionality of websites.
Instant quotes on insurance; sharing photos, music, and videos; online pay features, sites that let you virtually paint a room of your house so you can see what the room will look like before you paint it. It seems like if you can dream it, it can be incorporated into a website.
The challenge is, how do you integrate these cool features into your site?
If you have a regular HTML website, it would take a very talented team of developers and a very fat wallet to add these kind of features to your website. The advantage of this approach is that you can have something custom created exactly how you want it for your website. The disadvantage of this approach is that the cost is often prohibitively expensive for most people and organizations.
An alternative approach is to use a CMS (Content Management System) like WordPress. The advantage of using a CMS is that there are many very useful features that you can install into your site and it doesn’t take the same amount of time or level of expertise as developing the same functionality on a HTML website.
Are there new features you dream of adding to your website?
Next week, I’ll talk more in depth about WordPress, and some of the Pros and Cons of using it as your website platform.
