Proverbs 16:16 says, “How much better to get wisdom than gold, to get insight rather than silver!”
Three thousand years later, we exchange a significant amount of our gold for wisdom and insight in books, coaching, consultants, colleges, seminaries and more.
It’s the information economy.
If you’re an expert on something, people are willing to pay you for your expertise.
The Internet continues to fuel innovation in the information economy, making possible new ways for the expert and the expert-seeker to connect and exchange wisdom and knowledge. Some of these innovations include online learning and ebooks.
The latest innovation is “micro-consulting.” One place its being facilitated is Maven.co. Take a look:
Google+ appears primed to take things one step further with Helpouts:
The idea of micro-consulting is still in its infancy and Helpouts aren’t even available yet, but I see lots of great opportunity here.
The micro-consulting itself has a lot of possibilities, but beyond that, it could be used for:
- Lead generation – Provide 10 minutes of free insight and then share with the person info about your paid services.
- Tutoring – Teachers might be able to generate some extra income by helping students online.
- Ministry – I don’t know if Maven or Helpouts will facilitate free consulting, but if they do, a church or ministry could offer free prayer, answer questions about God, or counseling.
What do you think about idea of micro-consulting? Would you consider using it in your business or ministry?
