Info on and Access to the Newest Facebook Layout
Facebook is rolling out yet another new layout, a redesign to the way personal profiles are displayed.
According to a CNN article:
The overhaul, previewed Sunday night on 60 Minutes, aims to transform what’s now a jumbled collection of details into a streamlined window on who you are and what you’re up to.
Here’s a screen shot of the new look of my Facebook profile:
The most noticeable differences are the new bio section in the top center, which shows info about your work, education, current city, spouse, hometown, and birth date. When I first looked, my work, education, current city, and hometown were all blank. I updated that info, but I couldn’t help thinking… hadn’t I added them once before? My other thought was that this feels a lot like LinkedIn.
Immediately below the new bio section are displayed the last 5 photos you’ve been tagged in.
You might notice the box to type your status update is gone. (Or if you’re on someone else’s profile, the box for posting to that person’s wall.) Now you have to click “Status” (or “Post”) to make that appear before typing into it.
Beyond that I don’t notice much difference.
Facebook put together this short video about the new profile layout…
No info about the new profiles in the video. Just a few glances at an example. I guess instead of informing it’s supposed to give us warm, fuzzy feelings about the new profiles, but it’s kind of underwhelming, IMO.
While Facebook said they’ll be rolling out the new layout over the course of the next month, you can get it now for yourself here: New Facebook Layout.
Overall, I think the changes are relatively minor. I don’t anticipate too many people getting to excited or upset about them, but as always there will be some.
Are you going to switch over to the new Facebook layout?
If you already have, what do you think of the new Facebook changes? Anything in particular you like or dislike?
