Four weeks ago we announced the Facebook Fan Drive for Orphans.
The idea: grow our Facebook fans from 600 to 2,000 by the end of the month, and if we reach that goal, donate $500 to Springs of Hope Kenya, a fantastic Christian home for orphans started by our friends Joe and Molly Bail.
We blogged about it, tweeted about it, and posted updates to our Facebook page throughout the month. In the end, the goal proved unattainable. When the clock struck midnight this morning, we had 1,239 Facebook fans. The addition of 639 fans is just under half the goal, so we’re going to make a donation of $250 to Springs of Hope.
But that also means we more than doubled our Facebook fans in a month, which is still pretty remarkable.
We want to welcome and thank all the people who “liked” us and became new Facebook fans in the last month. We look forward to continuing to engage with you on Facebook in conversations about communicating more effectively online.
We especially want to thank all the people who tweeted about the Fan Drive, shared links to it, and encouraged their friends to become Facebook “fans” of OurChurch.Com. It was a total community effort.
The great thing is there really isn’t any reason your business or ministry couldn’t do something similar.
If you own or operate a business, why not join up with a charity you’re passionate about and do your own Facebook Fan Drive?
If you operate a ministry, why not join up with the business of someone you’re connected with and do a Facebook Fan Drive?
Not only will the business benefit from people talking, posting, tweeting, and sharing about the effort, but that added publicity will probably be even more valuable to the charity than the donation.
So, what do you think? Will you give a Facebook Fan Drive a shot?

This is a good idea. I'm going to consider this, thanks
Cool! If you do, come back and let us know how it went.
