Social Media sites like Facebook, Twitter, and YouTube provide unprecedented opportunities for organizations to communicate and engage with their current members/customers as well as innovative new ways to reach out to new people.
But social media tools are relatively new and constantly changing, and so most organizations are still trying to figure out how to use social media effectively.
August is Social Media Month at OurChurch.Com. Our goals are to:
- Answer your questions about social media
- Help organizations use social media more effectively
- Use social media better ourselves so we communicate more effectively with others and serve as a great example of how to use social media
Here are some of the things we’re doing this month to accomplish these goals.
1) Social Media Q&A
2) NE1 Facebook and Twitter Modules
3) Help Raise $500 for Orphans by Becoming a Facebook Fan of OurChurch.Com
4) OCC’s New Approach to Social Media
5) Is Social Media Working For You? Guest Blog About It?
6) Get On Our Twitter Clients List

1) Social Media Q&A
Does your church, ministry or business have social media plan? Are you using Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn, YouTube and other social media tools the best it possibly can? If your answer to either of these questions is “no,” then you probably have questions about how your organization can use social more effectively. We recently asked in a blog post “What Are Your Most Pressing Social Media Questions/Issues?“ Post your questions in that post’s comments and we’ll d our best to answer them.
2) NE1 Facebook and Twitter Modules
If your organization has a Facebook page or a Twitter account, one your goals should be to get people who visit your website to engage with you on Facebook or Twitter. If you’ve created your website with our NE1 Web Builder, one of the best ways to do this is to add the Facebook or Twitter modules to the sidebar of your website. These modules display your latest updates/tweets and give visitors the opportunity to fan/follow you right on your website.
We’ve created a forum topic explaining how to do this. Once you’ve added the Facebook or Twitter module to your site, post a reply with a link to your site. It will help promote your site and serve as an example to other organizations. Go to the NE1 Facebook and Twitter Modules forum topic.
3) Help Raise $500 for Orphans by Becoming a Facebook Fan of OurChurch.Com
OurChurch.Com is doing a Facebook Fan Drive for Orphans. We’re on a quest to reach 2,000 Facebook Fans by the end of August. If we do it, we’ll donate $500 to Springs of Hope Kenya, an awesome Christian home for orphans. See the full announcement for details and become a Facebook Fan of OurChurch.Com.
4) OCC’s New Approach to Social Media
Up until now, pretty much the only things we’ve been posting to Facebook and Twitter have been links to OCC announcements, newsletters, and blog posts with a few updates from conferences and links to other ministry/tech blog posts thrown in. Well, we’re upping the interaction and engagement factor. You can expect tweets/status updates that…
- Feature/link to OCC users/clients who are going remarkable things
- Ask your opinion on OCC features & services
- Give you the opportunity to share what you’re doing on your site or in your ministry
- Let you decide the theme of the next NE1 template
- Special offers only available people who follow us on Facebook & Twitter
- Give away free stuff
Don’t worry, we’re not going to overwhelm you – just 1-2 updates/tweets a day – but there will be better balance between talking about what’s happening at OCC and listening to what’s going on with you.
5) Is Social Media Working For You? Guest Blog About It?
One of the ways I learn best is by seeing examples. If your organization is using Facebook, Twitter or another social network and having some success with it, we would love it if you would share what you’re doing by writing a guest blog article about it. You don’t have to be an expert or be getting mind-blowing results. Just telling what you’ve tried, what’s working, and what didn’t work could help thousands of people. You’ll probably get some feedback and suggestions on how to make your social media efforts even better. Become a guest blogger.
6) Get On Our Twitter Clients List
OCC has created a Twitter list for our users/clients who are on Twitter. By following the list, we can listen to all our twittering clients in one place. If you’re on Twitter, follow the list so you can get to know other OCCers. If you’re on Twitter, but not on the list, email, DM, or @mention a message to us so we can add you. Oh, and don’t forget to follow @OurChurchDotCom on Twitter if you don’t already.
What are your comments, questions, and suggestions about these opportunities? Post a comment and let us know.
