As I mentioned in Friday’s blog article, Mark and I spent last Wednesday and Thursday in Daytona Beach as exhibitors at a conference for Lutheran pastors and teachers. We had a chance to talk with a lot of pastors, teachers, principals, and administrators about their websites. That’s something I really enjoy because it gives me a chance to hear first hand about the goals, challenges, thoughts, and frustrations they have for their church and school websites.

I thought I’d share with you some of my observations about church and school websites based on the dozens of conversations I had.
Additionally, I started to notice a pattern to many of these conversations as I tried to help pastors and teachers figure out the best next step for their church or school website. The end result was a simple 3 question flow chart which might help you figure out what’s next for your website.

By the way, do you know the difference between a Baptist conference and a Lutheran conference? Let me tell you…

Mark and I are back after spending two days in Daytona Beach as exhibitors at the Presidents Convocation of Lutheran Church Missouri Synod Florida-Georgia District. We had lots of great conversations with pastors, principals, and teachers about their websites and what OurChurch.Com could do to help them make better use of the web for outreach and communicating with people in their congregations. We even ran into several teachers and youth pastors we knew from our middle and high school days 20+ years ago.

Yesterday I had the opportunity to lead a workshop – “More than a glorified brochure - Using your church or school website to attract visitors and engage members.� Here are some notes and links from the workshop.

Teachers, Principals, Staff, School Board Members, and Parents,

Have you ever wondered what your school would be able to do if you were able to fill every class to capacity? Are there plans your school has made or projects you want to complete, but you just don’t have the recourses?  As a member of the school board of Family of Christ Christian School in Tampa, FL (we’re about to launch a new, custom site), these are questions that I thought about a lot and I think I’ve found an answer to these questions. As we continue our focus on school websites during Back to School Month, today I have the privilege of introducing you to Debbie Steves, who is the newest member of the OurChurch.Com team.  Debbie joined our team 3 week ago after teaching second grade and computer class for 6 years.  During her tenure as a teacher, Debbie designed and updated a website for her class.  I thought you might appreciate some insight from her first-hand web experience, so I interviewed her about that.

Debbie shared how she started the website, the response of the parents, as well as some of the obstacles that prevented more parents from using the website.  A paraphrase of that conversation follows:
